Title: 2013 European Tour
Post by: Livia Zita on May 12, 2013, 02:50:48 PM
Hi Everyone!

In this thread, I will be posting pictures and links to videos I'll be taking throughout the tour.

It's going to be huge fun, and I can't wait to share!

I'll keep this first post updated, as well as reserve the first couple of response spaces for future use :) Keep checking this thread (and first posts) for goodies!

Cheers, and keep it metal! \m/

While I am pretty sure that King cares for the well being of his band, I kinda doubt he'd do "just a little dusting" before rehearsals.
On the other hand....one of the guys just MIGHT be allergic to dust...who knows?  :gah:

man, that kicked off a funny movie in my head

Does this mean more songs off of Voodoo included in the setlist? Sending Of Dead and Exorcist would be much appreciated.  :gah:

Also if he swapped his hat for something like this when playing Voodoo would be killer:

The Sepultura gig was amazing.

Fingers crossed for the stream too keeps going...until King Diamond finished their set.
You can see they are building the show right now

Edit.
I shouldn't have posted the above. The stream just went to black.
Atleast i will see them in Tilburg

Edit 2.
Now we see images of Germany industrial sights with the message. Gleich geht's weiter, which means: we will continue shortly.

Figures! My boss decides to play hooky today so I could  have watched it live at work and now they aren't showing it?!? Just my freakin luck I swear!

Oh well, one of these days he'll be here in Seattle and I won't need to rely on some internet crap to see him in concert. Then one day after that he will put out a DVD of this tour and I can watch it any time I want. Then new records, more tours, more DVD's more records more....oops started to get carried away sorry.

Wow. Other than that first "warm up" note at the beginning, this sounds fucking amazing.

IMHO, this is the best King has sounded is years! His voice is so strong now. Fantastic.

And is Andy using a new guitar too? It looked white from the video. Sucks that the video cuts off at the end.

Does the fence come down at some point?

I'm very excited for the next few dates. You sound fantastic King and company! :king:

You know, I haven't played my guitar in ages. In fact, this the longest I have went without playing gtr since I first started playing over 18 yrs ago.

Watching this video makes me want to pick up my guitar for the first time in 3 months, and that is how you know this is amazing fucking metal.

Thank you so much Andy and King for the inspiration to play again. Oh, and Mike too!

Yes the fence is only up during a few songs.

Andys guitar is just a white version of the same Vendetta he plays these days :)

Yes there was a note in the beginning that was off, but everything else was as spot on as it can be if you ask me. If this is how good they are at the first show, I can't wait to see them in June!  \m/ \m/ \m/ \m/

Oh I completely agree!

In fact, I think the few live parts he added on the vocals, you know, vocals you don't necessarily hear on the album, were awesome. Everything about his voice sounded great.
Even better than a few months ago.

Can't wait for more clips

Hi there,

just returned fron RHF 2013. I've been attending the festival every year since 2006 and the King's show on Sunday was without a doubt the most outstanding one (in the true sense of "show") that place has ever seen and maybe ever will. I've seen the King twice before (House of God and Puppet Master tours), each of which were great shows, but yesterday's show was something I've always wanted to see since I became a fan - which was a good 15 years ago. Big thanks to everyone involved!

I have info that the setlist is:

The Candle
Welcome Home
At the Graves
Up from the Grave
Voodoo
Let It Be Done
Dreams
Sleepless Nights
solo jam Mike and Andy
Drum Solo (Matt Thompson)
Shapes of Black
Come to the Sabbath (Mercyful Fate cover)
Evil (Mercyful Fate cover)
Eye of the Witch

Encore: The Family Ghost
Encore 2: Halloween
Encore 3: Black Horsemen

+1 We really need to hear some other songs! Classics are brilliant but as I remember King dosent change setlists during tours and it is sad that other awesome songs are ignored :(

All in all it was as expected. I would have loved for it to have a different song from GMYSP than Shapes Of Black. The Floating Head, The Girl In The Bloody Dress or Neverending Hill would have been better imo. Or maybe Mirror Mirror

so, what else can I say but "this was awesome"?

maybe I should start with a big THANK YOU to Mike Wead for letting me go backstage with THEM and spending the best damn Sunday of my metal life with him and the guys. I talked to everybody BUT King and Livia - just to say it up front - THEY both arrived 20mins before the show straight from the hotel (both in full gear, King's face shining eerily through the tinted windows of the band shuttle car) and headed straight for the backstage area to meet up with the rest of the band. If you now think that this is strange behaviour, let me explain the following:  King's voice is to him - and us - and to the tour- and to everyone and everything involved, worth more than a battleship's weight in gold. Let him get just one stupid draught backstage or have one careless dude sneeze on him and his voice might be gone, not only hurting the performance, possibly causing cancelled gigs but also causing permanent damage to King's voice if he chooses to sing despite having caught a cold. And I am sure nobody wants that :)

so anyway, let maybe this picture here serve as an introduction:

(http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w93/RipperBendix/mikeripperhal_zpsef48e131.jpg) (http://s174.photobucket.com/user/RipperBendix/media/mikeripperhal_zpsef48e131.jpg.html)

Mike and Hal, the guys I spent most of my time with that day. every second was just pure greatness. I felt extremely welcome by all of the bandmembers (including Jodi) and the whole thing was just comfortable as hell. Easy going, laid back and with a certain feeling of "family".
THANK YOU!!

I don't want to leave a wall of text here, so here's a list :)

I met King's personal bodyguard and had a great conversation with him. He was checking me before I got my "AAA" wristband and it was pretty funny. He grabbed my hand, squeezed like a vise, looked me straight in the eye and then said with a big smile "Noooo problem". I could definitely tell, that this man has a heart of gold and the strength of two horses. We sat around with Hal at the stairs in front of the backstage entrance and talked some time about King, what he and the vision behind him are all about, the biz', what state the world is in...all within like ten minutes of our first meeting.

I was able to tag along when Mike went backstage to warm up for the gig (not in costume yet, they did that in private) and I got a good damn glance of Mike's upcoming signature guitar. Let me just tell you, that this a thing of beauty and I will rob a bank to afford one. No, I did not touch it and I didn't ask  :D

I DID touch Hal's bass though, because he handed it to me to play around with - and I promptly smacked the head of the bass guitar into the wall behind me. Yes, you read that right. I almost had a seizure and exploded into a waterfall of apologies to Hal - who was pretty amused that I made any kind of deal about it. Yes, he is THAT laid back and cool. Unbelievable. Needless to say, Hal's bass plays like a dream!

Andy was in the backstage room, too. Warming up with his beautiful white Dean. He, too, was incredibly friendly and absolutely great to be around with. Funny, I have met so many assholes in the biz and they all were smaller bands than KD...
So kids, remember one thing, and one thing only: you are only that, what the FANS MAKE YOU. Watch the King Diamond band and crew closely to learn how it is done right. You will meet all the people you meet on your way up again on your way down. Treat people with respect and don't automatically think you are better than the person you talk to just because your band has reached a certain level.

What else?
THANK YOU for an awesome sunday, a fantastic gig with super awesome sound and a King on the microphone who sounded fresh and at the top of his talent. He NAILED At The Graves like back then on the album and the whole thing left me with goosebumps.

There's much more to tell but I gotta take care of my family for the rest of the night now. I'll post more tomorrow  :)
Title: Re: 2013 European Tour
Post by: Owen on May 20, 2013, 12:31:34 PM
First off, you lucky bastard.

Second off, I'm kind of disappointed that they didn't change up the setlist, purely because every King Diamond fan knows it now, and has known it for a year, so what's the point? Even a few different songs, just to separate these shows from last year's, or even just a different song off of GMYSP would be better. I know it's not been easy for King and Livia, and they've tried very hard to get this done properly, and probably don't want King to have to rehearse a whole new setlist, I just think I expected more from the band I've wanted to see live the most since I first heard them back in 2008 or whenever.

I feel like a dick for even bringing it up.

You shouldn't. Sad but true. I will be at Stadium Live in Moscow on 20th of June and I am happy with my ticket but to tell the truth I would love to hear some different songs live! All in all if the band decided to pick these songs again they had the reason for it! So Hail the King! :king:
Ha, see you there, mate!
I heared that before sweden rock King was rehearsing "The Wheelchair". So I hope that the set list may change for a little bit. I feel sorry for Abigail II, i love that album, but most of fans don't  :icon_confused: Would love to hear some songs from that album.

Okay, here's more stuff.

I mentioned up there that I did not meet King. It was okay for me, because I knew, that he was busy and going to arrive JUST before the show and leaving RIGHT after the show. I did see him very close, though three times and don't want to keep the experience for myself - not to show off, but to share my enthusiasm at that point with people who can appreciate it  :)

1:
when the band shuttle car was pulling up I saw Livia (wearing a red ballroom dress, she was beautiful you can't even imagine) and him get out and head through the backstage door. I was maybe two meters away from them and got instant goosebumps as King came out. He was focused AS HELL - or at least looked like it. Eyes straight ahead, no looking left or right, breathing through his mouth, teeth almost clenching and overall looking very tense. Mind, that this was the impression I got! It could be, that he was just chewing gum, so don't call me out on that, haha. And yeah, I said goosebumps. King might be one of the most relaxed guys I ever talked to (on the phone, three times so far) - but seeing the guy within arm's length in full fucken gear is something else. Like a totally different person.

2:
After Mike bid me farewell to dress for the show it took maybe 25mins for the whole band to come out of the backstage room. They all passed me on their way to the stage and King looked straight at me, smiled and threw me the horns. Either he recognized me or I was just the lucky bastard being in his focus when he looked sideways. One way or the other, having those piercing blue eyes on you gives you the feeling of a deer in the headlights. I was grinning from ear to ear, nodded at him with sincere "you are SO fucking badass" appreciation and didn't bug him or the rest of the band further because they had to get on stage.

3:
Immediately after the gig the band left the stage on a special ramp that was being put together before the encores to get faster to a band shuttle car that was waiting there for THEM - minimizing the risks of catching a cold. Since it seemed to be the most respectful thing for me to do at that point, I located myself right next to the ramp and gave every band member one extra round of applause on their way out. I don't think Mike and the guys noticed me, but King did (again?) and said "Thank you SO fucking much, man"

so, there's my King Diamond experience, just one musician (me) appreciating the work of another musician (King) while trying not to stand in the way when it's showtime, haha.

That's awesome to hear man! I got the goosebumps when I got a call over skype saying ''King Diamond is calling'' :P I can't imagine how it must be for us really huge fans to meet him in person, even if it is a short time.

The running order just got up for Copenhell and it couldn't be better! Im just going to stay at the main stage after Down has played (King Diamond and Down are the best bands on the festival) so I can be in front row! :D

Hell yes !! \m/ \m/ ....alot of us cant help but to be envious of your experience with King but I think it is awesome that you got to do all that . Really cool . I think its funny that people complain about King's set list considering its been over half a decade since he has graced the stage with his presence .  I am really looking forward to announcements for some U.S. shows .  King takes his performances seriously and Ill be happy with whatever setlist he gives us .....would be cool if he changed it up a little from the Euro festivals . I think he will play some different songs . Overall just glad he is in top form vocally and his health is good .   Hell the U.S. awaits !  \m/

Please don't forget, that we have not toured with the current set list.
The two shows with this set list we have done last year at Sweden Rock and Hellfest proved to King, us and the fans that he can do shows without any problems, and that he is ready for a tour.

We all have worked incredibly hard for months to bring your this European tour, with a set list that has not been seen anywhere aside from 2 festivals in 2012.

From what I've been told, rehearsals included e.G. playing the whole set twice on a day and working hard on everything for +14hrs a day.
That definitely counts as incredibly hard work in my book and I thank you for it.

Livia is right. I don't understand why people are complaining about the set list. Remember, King almost died a couple of years ago, and is back giving us the best possible experiences live. And somebody is whining of what songs King chooses to play. As a fan I'm ashamed of that kind of behavior of some of you.

King Diamond show is really theatrical experience, it's more than just a music. It's really a show and not many bands are giving their fans both music and theatrical show the way King does. You should be proud of that no matter what songs Kings chooses to play. It's not easy to perform when you have to focus on both acting on stage and singing very talented and difficult vocals like King does. I know it's more easier (at first) to go on with the set list that stays pretty much the same. Then King can focus on that he can give us the best possible show both vocally and theatrically. I know you have done A LOT of work, I appreciate that more than I can describe by words.

In my very opinion the set list is suberb. I'm very happy that I can see similar great setlist that I saw on Sweden Rock last year. The Sweden Rock show was the best show I have ever seen and experienced (and I have seen a lot of live shows I can tell you). I just can't wait the Tuska festival show in Finland the next month. I'm so eager to see that one. Hopefully from the front row.

Thank you RipperBendix for all the awesome stories you have shared with us. I'm very glad for you man that you had that brilliant time with the band.

Well, I had to pop up just to say I'm completely happy of what comes to set list. There's been so much going on in my life lately and I have been very busy but I'm trying to come back to have a cool chat with you guys. I'm going to be back on forums after the Finnish King Diamond show. Till then: Stay heavy and enjoy the shows! \m/

I'm not worrying about the set list, it's good (besides Up From The Grave) and the addition of Evil is even better! I just wish I didn't already know it.

Theatrically Up From the Grave is even one of the highlights of the show! I have seen it live and it blew my mind away when I saw that spectacle from the front row.

Well, if you're not complaining (even it sounds like you and some others are doing that) about the set list then everything is fine. If you compare King Diamond show for what the actors are doing (they are rehearsing the same thing months and months and it's a hard work, and I mean the actors and actresses who are working in a theatre) then you could appreciate more what King Diamond is doing even the set list would stay the same. The perfect mix of acting, singing and playing that great stuff is something I adore and for me it doesn't matter what the band plays as far as it's King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. It's more easier for bands that aren't theatrical at all to change the set list often but I'm more into the theatrical stuff the way King is offering.

My ticket has just arrived... I'm sooo looking forward to Metalfest.
I too hoped the setlist would be at least a little different, but I agree with the comment above - it's hard to change the setlist when you have those theatrical things going on. Personally, I'd do without Shapes Of Black, but I'm quite curious to hear the song (which is more about the horror atmosphere than the music itself) live.

They could seriously play any setlist and I would be happy! The band has never (imo) made a bad track! However a KD setlist can only be too short! ;)

What I like about the setlist is that it has about 6 songs I didn't hear on the last tour, and the rest are songs that I know for a fact work live! I can't wait to see it!  \m/

Let's keep negative discussion of the setlist out of this thread. If you want to discuss this list (or any), it would not be a bad idea for a different topic.

This thread exists to share this tour and to bring pictures, stories, experiences, etc. for the fans to enjoy. Let's not spoil it with negativity. This thread should be a celebration!

Keep in mind: how many people seeing this show have ever had the chance to even hear these songs live? Or even see King for that matter? I remember the when the last Euro tour was cancelled and the disappointment on these forums. We should feel blessed, honored, whatever, that King Diamond is back and on stage.

There are many songs I'd love to hear, but I have never had the chance to see King (or MF) live. I'd be honored to hear anything from the vast library of work he and the band have done over the years.

Another point to remember: as a band with legions of fans, you're not going to please everyone! Look at other touring bands, and for many I'm sure you'll hear complaints about their setlist. Some want classics, some want new stuff. Some want brand new songs that have never been heard before.

If you are at one of these shows and you're hearing a song you've seen live many times, fuck it! Sing along, fists up, horns up, bang your head, go into convulsions,  whatever! Go fucking crazy and show the new fans that are there how awesome this band is and what they mean to you.

No reason to complain about setlist or production being the same as last year. The way I see it, they began the tour last year with 2 gigs, then had a hell of a lot of days off, and then continued last weekend. This is where a place like Youtube is both a blessing and a curse, because some people will have watched Sweden Rock or Hellfest a thousand times by now. In the pre-internet days, people wouldnt have known shit, and would have eaten that setlist with a spoon!
Anyway,  no matter the setlist, a real, in-the-flesh KD show is gonna knock you out, COLD!  Cherish the experience! It's theatrical Metal, done at a very high level!!

Just got home. Was almost front row, just one guy in front of me. Absolutely amazing! Everything sounded beyond my expectations.
But I wish the crowd would've been better, was no struggle to stay there, which, to me, is half of the concert experience.

This is a great festival setlist. I think it's ok to discuss it here until there's a thread about it, but that's just me...

People here are just die-hard fans, so it's normal to see more unusual requests like side 2 of "The graveyard" or not enough "House of god". But I'm sure everyone is happy that the classics are well taken care of.

Nah, recordings can be enjoyed from the stereo at home. I would have preferred Halloween live instead.

I agree with you that Insanity is a real favorite though...

Theatrically Up From the Grave is even one of the highlights of the show! I have seen it live and it blew my mind away when I saw that spectacle from the front row.
I have to agree! I've seen it live in the Graveyard tour in Helsinki (what a night, Mercyful Fate & King Diamond) and it's one of the eeriest things ever. This is what King is about in my opinion! Theatrical horror, not riffs and solos. That's just the way I see it. Also Spider's Lullabye is very powerful in this way as well as Shapes Of Black, that has also been criticized here. Sure I love everything, but bits like these really bring chills down your spine and make King Diamond stand out as a unique artist he is.

"Storm over the Warsaw"

That's right - just before the concert of KD, rain struck the windshield of my car, the sky darkened, lightnings slashed the sky - perfect weather for KD show  :smileok:

One word describes todays concert - awsome!!!!! Guys are in great form, just can't wait new album and new tour \m/

Set list (pls correct me if I'm wrong):

The Candle
Welcome Home
At the Graves
Up from the Grave
Voodoo
(Let It Be Done)
Dreams
Sleepless Nights
Guitars Solos
Drum Solo
Shapes of Black
Come to the Sabbath
Evil
Eye of the Witch
The Family Ghost
Black Horsemen

And I must say that - Jodi is sexy as hell! Loved her Voodoo Dance or the Shadow perform in "Shapes of Black" - brilliant!
And now "I cannot sleep at night"...  :icon_wink:

Wow, We can't even discribe what happened in Warsaw. After the show in front row ,one brother said to the other :
"If we survived this, there is nothing in hell that We wont be able to handle.....

THE CROWD WAS FANATIC  \m/ \m/ \m/  there was so much pressure in the front row, real heavy metal fight.

show was awesome like it always is, crowd was singing to king known polish song that means someting like :
MAY HE LIVE 100 YEARS FOR US, 100 , 100 YEARS

The venue was JAM PACKED, people were crowd sufring every 2 minutes, I've lost my glasses few times during the battle  :icon_lol: but security was VERY VERY FUCKING AWESOME so they were giving them to me all the time .

KING was very pleased with the crowd, what he showed many times.

That American piss was good for me when I drank! I had an IV running to my veins filled with Budweiser. Not saying it was my favorite beer, just the cheapest favorite.  :D: Never knew they had another version, sometimes I wished I still drank so I could try this shit out.

It's not a different version, it is the real version :P It's called budvar budejovicky which was translated to Budvar Budweiser. The american beer is a cheap knockoff :)

Big respect goes to the people standing in the crowd, becouse it was raining all weekend. This one show we were watching from inside, but we weren't "The uninvited guests" ;) After the show, whole band stepped down from the stage to thank the fans.

That man is a powerhouse and a gentleman! I have had a very interesting conversation with him at RockHard fest. Was he prowling the side of the stage as well at the other shows? When he is in business mode he seriously looks extremely menacing and always ready to jump in and kick ass if somebody tries to cause trouble. Really interesting and deep person!

Pilsen was awesome, despite the weather just couldn't be any shittier.
King very struggled with his voice in the beginning of The Candle and forgot lyrics to the Black Horsemen (the first heavy verse) and Andy got lost in the middle of Evil... but other than that, it was pure genius.
The highlight of the show - Up From The Grave. I almost got scared shitless  :D

Do you have any more photos of the show in Plzen?

It has been so long since I last wrote anything more than one-liners here but now I have something to say. I just realized that it's less than three weeks till Tuska-festival and seeing King Diamond live again. I first saw them live in '97 in Helsinki when I was 17, later the HOG tour in 2001 and in 2006 I managed to find my way to the small venue in Hellendoorn NL for the last concert I was to witness. After that there were basically two cancelled tours (King was about to do FOUR gigs in Finland from which I was to participate in THREE...) so you can probably imagine how I'm shivering in anticipation for this open air concert in warm summer night...it has been seven years and it feels like yesterday and since forever at the same time. I don't know why I had to write this down but I god damn can't wait! If there's any old school d-bangers coming around drop me a private msg, would be cool to meet some old-school bangers out there.

Three weeks. I just hope my back and heart can take it. Keep having a relatively high density  \m/

I managed to find my way to the small venue in Hellendoorn NL for the last concert I was to witness.

That was a kick ass gig!
I was there as well...the sound wasn't too great, but the people that were there went nuts...myself included!
The day after, King played in Tilburg with way better sound, bigger stage etc...and it was great.
However, i prefered the Hellendoorn gig.

I'm sure you will have lot's of fun at the Tuska festival!  \m/

...the sound wasn't too great, but the people that were there went nuts..

I was with a friend, standing behind the mixing guy for the first two songs and the sounds was of course pretty good (as far as I can't remember) there but I couldn't stay there too long because it was pretty easy to get to the frontline and slap hands with the band. Great great memories.

Random fact:

My eyes ALWAYS shine on photos taken with flash. The reason for this is that my pupils are larger than normal. The reason for *that* is I used to keep reading after my parents turned off the lights (hid the books under my pillow... hey, I love reading), and the strain I put on my eyes by reading in the dark for many years when I was still growing, made them adapt to darkness.

So now my pupils are too big, I have a hard time seeing in daylight, and have no problem navigating a dark room. :)

Do you still have good vision from that? I would thnk putting that kind of strain on them would hurt them in the long run, but who knows maybe you made them stronger by working them out? IDK, sounds like it could come in handy to be able to see that well in the dark. You can always wear sunglasses to help out in the bright lights, but you can't always carry around night vision goggles lol

I do need contact lenses :)

I have to wear sunglasses if I'm outside, otherwise I have a really hard time seeing anything and the brightness hurts.
It can be a bother too sometimes, for example, we went to see a Saxon concert not long ago and I had to wear sunglasses inside, because the stage lights were hurting my eyes. I thought I looked like a total ass, trying to be cool and wearing sunglasses inside a dark venue. :)

You know how, if you suddenly turn on bright lights after being in very darkness, your eyes hurt? That's how it feels constantly, if I don't wear sunglasses in the bright daylight outside (and I can't squint enough to help).

It's interesting stuff actually :)

And yes, seeing in near total darkness helps a lot sometimes too :)

Oh wow, that is interesting! It seems I have the same problem, but I never thought it could be caused by reading in the night when I was a kid - I was actually more listening to music and reading lyrics from the booklets, but less or more it's the same... When I'm outside and there is sunny weather, I simply feel pain in my eyes. It's most hard in the winter when there is snow all around and strong sun... Many years ago I visited the doctor and he told me "your eyes are just fragile, so wear sunglassess" and now like 15 years later I find the explanation on King Diamond forum, haha... And yeah most people think I try to be cool with having sunglasses with me all the time, it's actually hard to find any picture of mine from the last 15 years where I haven't sunglasses on my head...

Here you can see a Polish flag on the floor in front of King.  We had a flag that said "HAPPY BIRTHDAY , 14TH JUNE" which we threw on stage. Later during the show King pointed at Us and said to the microphone "So You came here also... " And picked up our flag showed it to the audience and said "There are two guys that are following us since the beginnig of that tour" That moment was priceless ... Thank You so so much King ! You don't know how much it means to us ....

To Our Russian Fans:

We have just learned the following from the promoter's website http://www.go2show.biz/ :

*forum can't handle Russian letters, please see below*

Google translation says:

"regret to inform you that the St. Petersburg concert KING DIAMOND, scheduled for June 18, 2013 in DC Leningrad City Council, has been canceled due to technical reasons. Tickets purchased at the St. Petersburg concert are valid for the Moscow concert. The Moscow concert KING DIAMOND, as planned, will be held June 20, 2013 at Club Stadium Live. Also tickets for the canceled concert St. Petersburg can be returned. On the order of the return ticket will be announced soon on this page."

We (Diamond Entertainment) confirm that we have just been informed of the above cancellation by our Russian agent as well, and that the Moscow show is going ahead as scheduled 100%.

Or maybe you have some cat DNA in you. :disturbed:

By the way I was very disappointed that there was no merch :(
Wanted to buy a new T-shirt, didn't want to order from an official shop, afraid of the Russian Post. If King would have done a story about our post, it would be the scariest album.
But it was the only con) everything else was simply AMAZING!

It was an awesome show indeed, but I simply just can't wait to get the experience again! I had a pretty rubish personal thing happening to me right before the KD show (literally! 10 minutes before or so) so I couldn't enjoy the show as much as I would.

But goddamn the live setup is amazing and the band is playing better than ever! I can't wait for the oportunity to see the show again!

The Tuska show was amazing! Thank you to everyone in the band! And also special thanks to King for signing my tattoo-images. I've had the pictures ready for years and now, completed with King's autograph, I can finally get those inked. I'll post some pictures when they're done ;D Too bad the show was so early that the sun was still shining directly to the stage, but that wasn't a problem. Here's one my wife took.

Hi Livia,

the show was indeed amazing in Tuska last night! My throat is still a bit sore from all the screaming :) King's vocals were perfect, the band played like no tomorrow and the setlist was well chosen. One of my favorite moments was when the crowd continued chanting "You are the one" in the end of Come to the Sabbath.

Hope to see you soon in Finland again, don't make us wait another long seven years ;) The wait was still totally worth it!

One of the best shows I’ve ever seen: a perfect night! I enjoyed the show as much as I did one year ago at Sweden Rock festival. The crowd was even better and louder than a year ago. I was at the middle of the front row with my wife. We were both wearing King Diamond make-up. It was one hell of a battle to stay there at the front row but it was totally worth it to see everything from the best possible place.

King’s vocals were top notch, amazing, brilliant, I can’t describe how much I enjoyed the way he hit the high notes and everything. The whole band sounded heavy as hell. I adore the way Jodi acted her roles. At times I almost pissed my pants when I looked her into the eye a little longer. She looked so hypnotic and bewitched. Scary stuff but in a cool way. Of course King’s theatrical appearance blew my mind away, for example the haunted atmosphere of Up from the Grave.

As I have said many times before: I do love the new stage production.

It’s almost impossible to say which song was the highlight. I love Dreams, one of the highlights for sure, and I went totally nuts when Evil started. It sounded so fucking HEAVY. Black Horsemen is a brilliant way to end the show - one of my all-time favourites.

By the way, during Eye of the Witch when King threw the wine glass Matt Thompson almost got hit. Fortunately it went wide and didn’t hit Matt but it was a cool theatrical element that happened in an accident I guess.

One friend of mine told me after the show how she cried because of her happiness during most of the songs. Some younger friends of mine told me it was the best show they have seen. Also some older die hard King Diamond fans were thrilled after the show. It seemed that everyone to whom I talked to liked or loved the show.
Thank you, I’ll never forget that special show.
 :king:

It was an awesome show indeed, but I simply just can't wait to get the experience again! I had a pretty rubish personal thing happening to me right before the KD show (literally! 10 minutes before or so) so I couldn't enjoy the show as much as I would.

But goddamn the live setup is amazing and the band is playing better than ever! I can't wait for the oportunity to see the show again!
Well, bad luck, it must have been frustrating. Hopefully you'll get a next chance as soon as possible. I do agree that band is playing better than ever.
Cheers my friend!

I agree with you totally, the stage is just awesome - makes bands that only have a cloth banner behind them look really lame  :icon_biggrin: When you go see a King Diamond show you truly get to see one, I just love the way King not just sings but performs every song.

I agree with all of you on the theatrical side, BUT... I hate Finnish summer! Well, to be exact, I hate festivals altogether. Lights are completely useless in the direct sunlight and the sound is never as great as indoors. All the great bands come to festivals, but in here it's daylight 'till midnight. And it's very few places that allow to continue festivals late enough. I was really looking forward to King's new stage but it didn't look nearly as scary and impressive as it would have looked if it was dark. And the lights... No-one would have noticed if they were turned off. Don't get me wrong, loved the show and the stage, but I'm looking forward to indoor shows where the production really looks the way it should... And the sound is 10 times better.

Yes, the light was a bit of a problem. King actually cursed the sunny weather at some point :D But anyway, the show was amazing! The best live performance I've seen!  :king:

I couldn't agree more. However, despite the bright and sunny weather the show was one of the best I've ever seen. The band was brilliant! Jalometalli is the best Finnish festival because it's scheduled for late Summer/Autumn and it's darker outside when the headliners start playing. The King's stage and lights were very impressive at Sweden Rock a year ago. It was much darker then. Let's hope the next show in Finland will be an indoor show.

EDIT: It was Graspop show last night, what was it like?

Yes she is awesome, she's my wife. :) And I do agree what you said.

I have read some reports of Tuska show from Finnish major newspapers (Helsingin Sanomat, Keskisuomalainen etc.) and seems like they are praising how great King Diamond's show was. It's brilliant that even Helsingin Sanomat wrote such an overly positive, respectful and awesome report of the show. I'm happy. :icon_cool:

King's stage and lights were very impressive at Sweden Rock a year ago.

Agree !!  \m/  Sweden Rock last year had more "alive" lightning... our beloved crosses were just going crazy with colours. And the lighning performance was more atmospheric. What have changed... (??)

In Finnish show the different colours of those crosses were hard to see because it was so bright daylight during the show. How about the other shows, has King had a chance to play any shows in the dark night during this tour? Sweden Rock indeed was pure magic of what comes to crosses and lights. The last friday at Tuska Open Air King was singing even better than a year ago. So, I loved both of the shows (Sweden Rock and Tuska Open Air).

Haha, thanks Dmytro :) Honestly I think we have so many best fans on this forum that it's impossible to say who are the best of the best. If you read this topic through it's obvious King Diamond brothers from Poland are among the very best fans (if not the best) for sure. Cheers to all awesome fans!

That's a pity. Sometimes it sucks living in Finland though I love that we have four different seasons here. Unfortunately bright summers aren't the best option for King Diamond festival performances. But hey, it was still one hell of a show. Perfect one (even it wasn't dark).

Where and how you meet the King Diamond guys, Jani? It's awesome you got a chance. I'm glad for you. :king:

Yes, all the shows that we saw this year were played in dark atmosphere (2 shows started when it wasn't 100 % dark ,ended in black night)

But that didn't matter, stage lights were much much more "alive" during Swden Rock... than this years tour.

But King's shape is even better this year than last ... We can imagine what it's gonna be like with new album next year  :smileok:

I have to agree. King was so amazing last Friday! Of course the whole band was pure magic, not just King and Jodi even I have praised them the most. Andy, my favourite guitarist of all was outstanding, Mike, another suberb guitar player and a great performer, Hal, one of my bass idols (who is almost starting to look Alice Cooper, which is cool), Matt, one hell of a drummer and Livia who did very cool backing vocals and looked super cool, I loved Livia's stage outfit that fitted perfectly in the music.

Let's hope the stage lights are even more "alive" in the next tour than what they have been during this summer. Nothing to complain though, everything has sounded and looked awesome this summer.

Long live the KING, long live the whole King Diamond band!!! \m/

I just found a very good article from Inferno's site. It was an article written about the Tuska Open Air festival. The King Diamond part was full of praise. Sounds like the journalist Tapio Ahola thought King's show was fantastic and perfect in every way. Well, though the Inferno's article before was poor, the newer one was very respectful towards King. All in all, I'm so happy because it seems that everyone here in Finland have enjoyed the King Diamond show a lot. Every magazine and newspaper I've seen after the show had spoken highly of King Diamond band's performance.

Here's the article in Finnish: http://www.inferno.fi/live/tuska-open-air-suvilahti-helsinki-28-30-6-2013/

From facebook...for the Tilburg gig!  \m/

Quote
Enter Drawing to Win a Meet and Greet with King Diamond

King Diamond and band will meet up with 10 selected winners of a random drawing for an in-person chat.

To enter the drawing: Buy a ticket for the show. Then mail your name (both first and last name) and e-mail address, together with your ticket code, to win@013.nl. You can find the ticket code above the barcode.

The drawing wil be held on Friday August 2nd. The 10 winners will be informed directly by 013 on the same day.

The Meet & Greet will be sometime during the day of August 6th, at a Tilburg, Netherlands location. Winners will receive specific information.

Even though i will be at the gig, i will not enter. Not that i don't want too meet the band, on the contrary, i would love too.  But I have met the band before thanks to Renzo and the Covenworldwide on the House Of God tour in Tilburg and in Essen.

DAY TWO

I wake up in total darkness. Where the fuck am I? I draw the curtains and try to outstare a seagull that’s sat on the shitty white head of its favourite statue. The seagull wins. I’m really not in the state to compete with this hard bastard of a bird. I’ve missed breakfast but check my phone and find an invitation to join King Diamond at his hotel for midday.

“Mr. Diamond please,” I casually ask the receptionist, after a short stroll through Helsinki’s scenic streets. King arrives into the hotel lobby and within seconds his die-hard fans storm over, each clutching at least 20 records to get signed. King graciously obliges, spending time with every single fan and signing every single item before inviting me upstairs for a coffee in the lounge.

Guess what his favourite piece was…
(http://i46.fastpic.ru/big/2013/0722/e8/6fc8f6fa42b146de205446d121c1abe8.jpg) (http://fastpic.ru/)
“My fans are the most important thing to me – without them I’m nothing,” he tells me. It’s a sentiment echoed by many artists these days, but few actually invest the time and effort to engage with those they profess to so vehemently cherish. He talks about a recent show where he learned the promoter had been ripping off his fans by charging obscene prices for beer and water, and how later that night he dreamed about that promoter getting his head chopped off. Don’t mess with the King, folks.

I realise we’re both sat next to a chess table so ask King if he fancies a quick game. It was probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I’d like to think I chose wisely. Find out who won at the end.

I only got these during the concert in Poland. At my work it is very hard to have a day off in other case I would go there. I was lucky to have a day off for the Polish concert. I hope to have King Diamond and Livia autographs

I don't know if this has already been addressed somewhere at this forum (or elsewhere), but I have a question. The site of 013 -- the venue in Tilburg (The Netherlands) where King Diamond is scheduled to perform next Tuesday -- states (in Dutch): "Take notice: The management has indicated that King Diamond will play a full-length show of almost three hours. Therefore there will be no support-act tonight."

Is it really true that King Diamond is going to play (that much) longer at this club show than at the Rock Hard festival and the various other summer festivals he has visited this year? :icon_eek:

Of course I personally hope he can and will. The one-and-a-half hour show at Rock Hard was absolutely thrilling, and (almost) three consecutive hours of King Diamond live would be an absolute dream come true. \m/ I just wonder if the above announcement, as made by the venue, is entirely correct...

Well there is one way to find out...being there.  \m/
I will be there...and will not count on it though.
I do not think the band rehearsed for a longer show.

I suspect it will be the "normal" show.  :king:

Edit:
Reminder:
The venue is open at 19:00.
The gig starts at 20:30.

Full lenght show is about 90 minutes, in my poor math it's 1 1/2 hours.
Besides, we would have heard it from Livia already.

Full lenght show is about 90 minutes, in my poor math it's 1 1/2 hours.
Besides, we would have heard it from Livia already.
I've translated the Dutch word "avondvullend" from the venue's website as "full-length", because that was the best (albeit rather unsatisfactory) translation I could find at the time using google. But perhaps a better translation would be to say that the show is currently being advertised as: "an evening with King Diamond". For other musical (and theatrical) acts, I believe this usually implies a show that is made up of two long parts performed by the same artist, with a brief intermission (and no support-act). So that would seem to me to be a little different (and longer) than what King Diamond so far has been doing this summer.

But to be clear: I do not expect King Diamond to play for more than one-and-a-half hour either, given his (past) health problems. Moreover, I have bought my ticket for the Tilburg show already a long time ago and will be just as satisfied if King Diamond is going to bring the exact same show and setlist to 013 as the one I've enjoyed at the Rock Hard festival in May. I'm just a little confused by the explanation given by the venue for the absence of a support-act and their statement about an "almost three hour show", that's all.

Hey, anyone from (south-west)- Germany here who´ll be at the Tilburg-show?
I´m trying to get to the show, but since my driver decided NOT to go to the show, I´m searching for a lift.
Off course I´ll give "Spritgeld". If someone wants to contact me, please via personal message, would be very happy!
If 90 minutes or even longer, I´m sure it´ll be great  :king:

That is NOT a true statement from the venue . . . .    don't know when it was added to the approved announcement text . . . it wasn't there from the beginning. I'm working on getting that note removed . . . . even though only a few days before the show. [ Ole Bang ]

Thanks for the explanation! I don't know exactly how long ago that statement was added, but probably less than a week. You're absolutely right that it was not part of the original announcement, as I had not noticed that particular statement on previous visits to the King Diamond page on the website of 013. And I see that the note has now indeed been removed, as you intended.

But of course it would be really really nice, if at all possible, if King were to add one or two songs to his regular show, just to make up for any confusion. :icon_wink:

Hey brothers and sisters!!! It seems everyone's confused with the fact that not a single pro-shot appear during King's full summer tour. Livia said about the reasons and in my opinion their reasons are:
 1. The show is like a horror spectacle from the beginning to the end and it is totally the same from one venue to another. Making pro live stream available would take some fans away from the live performance itself. I mean some fans would watch it in superb quality and would not buy a ticket. And for King who put so much power, health and money to hit the road with the new show it would mean money loss.... And we as the fans need the new stuff and new merch and so on but King cant do it without money!
2. The DVD will not be sold out because of INTERNET and downloading. I WILL BUY it for sure and all of you who are here do it but most of people will download it and King will loss money again. We dont want it!

So now I think these PRO recordings will remain on the shelf until it is time! I've been on the show in Moscow and MUST admit THIS WAS THE MOST EXCITING 90mins in my life! Thanks KING and CO!!! :king: :king: :king:
Go buy the tickets and enjoy the pure evil live!!!!!!!!!!!

Think making a proper DVD with HD and masters sound recording for the fans will be a better idea, that to have bootlegers make all the money on shitty quality DVDs.

King has kind of cursed himself in a way. If he has recorded, or will record one of these shows, then after it's released, he will have to change his stage show and set, and then people will expect him to record another DVD since the change, and thus has kind of painted himself into a bit of a corner.

I love all you guys' speculations :D

Yes, I said there were reasons, but there is also a reason why I don't say what the reasons are :D Reasonception!

You'll all know it eventually, and see how it all works out :)

I supose that King has got a new idea for the new album. Maybe He is resting now after a summer tour and it is a matter of time and the new album will be relased. I think that a new album will be more darkness than previous.

Perhaps a few songs on a DVD as a bonus for the guys who buy the next album? At last that would be pretty nice!

I think King is waiting until 3d technology advances. He wants everything to pop out at you and make you feel like you are there in person.

Maybe I won't be discreet, and all in all this thread is concerned on European Tour, but I want to be proud of that one of "King Diamonds Brothers" from Poland will be in Japan this October--->  of course, at King Diamond Show. Hah!

Guys, you are just amazing! To travel so much countries to see most of the shows of the King's tour - it deserves respect.
(A little off-topic. I'm going to do a little trip too, from Moscow to Helsinki - to see Black Sabbath live \m/  )
By the way, there were no news from King for a couple of months. Hope he is busy making a new record!

Those KD brothers are crazy alright! Managed to travel to a few shows this year and Hellfest in 2012 but no where near as many as those two! Their car is simply awesome too. \m/

There were definitely extra microphones out at the sides of the stage during the Bloodstock performance before King's set.  I watched them being placed.

I'm extremely happy that King Diamond is coming to Jalometalli this year (http://www.kingdiamondcoven.com/site/featured/king-diamond-headlines-jalometalli-2014/). What a great surprise! Jalometalli is the best Finnish outdoor festival for King. When the headliners start there's always dark night so this time we are going to see everything the way it should be, all the lights and theatrical elements. The last time King played in Finland (Tuska Open Air) the show was perfect but the sun was shining during the set and we didn't see the lights that are important part of the theatrical side of King's show.

My Birthday was 3rd of January so I can say this was my best Birthday present though I heard the news a couple of days after my Birthday. Thank you!!!
