Nice that something else than american nu-metal will be part of that tour. Not sure if I would go if it spills to heavy mtl the week after. As I've just seen KD and only Pentagram sparks my interest so far on that particular line-up

Hmm, you were at the 2003 Los Angeles show too were you not? Front row, center, Samael shirt? Were you also at the Alestorm show here earlier this year?

You guys won't believe the fucking response to Slayer and King Diamond....its overwhelmingly negative. I am not kidding. Go look at the Mayhem Fest facebook page, people are mad because King Diamond is playing instead of some lame shit like Korn or Slipknot. This is so depressing. You guys in Europe don't know how good you have it. This is why we have NO metal scene in the US. This is why we'll never have anything like Wacken over here. Sorry to be a downer, I know King obviously has a ton of fans here, clearly, he sold out tons of big venues last year. But this is just so depressing to see THIS is what the younger generation of metal fans have become:

Sister Sin is on the Victory Records stage. I would recommend you guys all check them out. They are a metal band from Sweden, I saw them open for Loudness in Chicago a few years ago and have been a fan of them since then. They are more like 80s style metal, no metalcore bullshit like the other bands there.

By the way, it looks like a lot of the venues are places that have a stage with a small section of reserved seating then a big open lawn in the back. Are you guys getting the more expensive closer to the stage seats or the cheaper lawn seats? I've seen King up close several times before so I just got the $20 lawn seats since pit and front row seats were like $90 each and I really only want to see King Diamond and Slayer. I think King's big show is better to see further back anyway so you can see everything

Slayer was great in the 80's in 90's. They are a shell of their former selves now. I consider them a Slayer cover band now a days.

Greetings - does anyone have any info/scoop on the ultimate mayhem package listed on one of the ticketing sites?  Seems it includes a great spot to view the KD set and also a meet and greet in addition to the related swag the festival will throw in?  It looks super pricey so definitely curious to get some details.  In any case I'll be grabbing my ticket this weekend especially since they are doing the buy one, give one deal which is really cool.  Can't wait to see the King again..!

Just saw the Memorial Day special where they will give a ticket to a person in the Service when you buy a ticket for yourself.  That is really cool.  I was at a corporate party/concert in San Diego and besides all the conference attendees, they invited the first group of soldiers back from Afghanistan after 9/11.  I had a staff badge on and I can't even remember how many of them would thank me  when they walked by.  Very appreciative for some super shitty Jessica Simpson and Sugar Ray concert!

I will miss the Mayhem tour this summer.  I will be in the UK.  :(

Well if the rumors are true, I'm sure KD can still satisfy with just an hour. Remember there was only an hour for each band during the KD/MF double headliner tour.

I keep seeing that the fest ends at 11 PM so I'm guessing King Diamond will go on around 8? I hope they bring out "LOA House" or something really heavy and fast to floor all these teeny boopers and jocks in attendance.  :king:

I think its a decent place to see a show, but if you don't want to get stuck there for an hour or two after the show you better leave during the encore. The absolute worse parking lot I've ever seen.

Oh yea, I would agree with that. The first time I saw Iron Maiden there it took over 2 hours to get out of the parking lot. We also missed the opening act on the way. We were stuck on I-5 for miles. Everybody trying to get to the show. It was a mad house.

I've seen the King Diamond band at least 10 times. And I must say, last night in Chula Vista was one of the tightest and best KD shows I've seen! The band and King were on top of it and played a killer setlist. Definitely used their time wisely. Highlight for me personally... The 7th Day of July! Bad ass and unexpected! I have to say this tour is going to take the King Diamond band to a new level. They killed it tonight, and I'm sure they're only going to get bigger and better from here. And they absolutely deserve it! Such  a great and memorable experience! Hails to the King and the rest of the band! AMON belong to THEM!!

Post by: wildchildelsner on June 27, 2015, 06:30:07 am
The show in Chula Vista was amazing! As Nibiru stated the band was extremely tight, the best sounding band on the bill even. Andy and Mike were killing it with their solos and Pontus was having a blast up there. Matt sounded really good and kept everyone on time perfectly. King sounded superb, even better than when I saw him on Halloween! Livia sounded beautiful as well! My only complaint was the run time. Could have been longer. If they cut Devil Wears Prada out of the tour entirely to extend King's set, that would have made me happy, haha. Evil and Come to the Sabbath were nice to hear, and the pit was crazy for Welcome Home. As Nibiru mentioned, The 7th Day of July, 1777 was a welcome addition to the set. Some crazy shit happened during the show, some dude's knee got blown out, another guy broke both his arms, I nearly got knocked out in the pit and also nearly got my arm broken and my friend went to the hospital because his nose started to spontaneously gush blood near the end of King's set, and I only found out half way through Slayer! Crazy night but my crew is home safe and on the road to healing! Cheers to King and company for an awesome night!

Pretty similar to the last NA tour with the addition of 7th day of July. Hearing Digging Graves entirely was really cool as they did a medley last time. Also hearing Black Horseman wa awesome, since they had to cut that out the last time I saw him. 11 songs for the time constraint they had was pretty damn good and King had the place going mental. For the crowd Mayhemfest normally draws, King had them in the palm of his hand. He literally stole the show from Slayer last night. Slayer seemed almost underwhelming compared to King, as people already know what to expect from Slayer. With the theatrics in King's set, he really sets a unique standard that can't be matched by any performer, I don't care who you are. It's always a treat to see King perform, and I look forward to seeing a younger set of fans enter the coven :king:

Post by: Nibiru on June 27, 2015, 08:47:00 pm
Yeah, the place kinda emptied out after King played. The setlist was pretty much the same as the last tour, minus the songs from Puppet Master and Give Me Your Soul. And no At the Graves, Cremation, or Halloween this time either. But they did add The 7th day of July. Which more than made up for it in my opinion! Fucking epic! And I thought they played the same medley as last time too. Tea/Digging Graves/Visit From The Dead. Which was also fucking killer. Was great to see the band on a big stage finally too. The venue and fans went absolutely nuts. Even people who weren't really KD fans before were saying how amazing it was. Wish I was there again tonight! Enjoy!

Thank you wildchildelsner and Nibiru!
Yeah, I've seen the video on Youtube and I have to say that King sang even better than the last tour!
Wow, Digging Graves played entirely! Did they play entirely Tea too? And on Youtube I've seen the A Visit From The Dead intro! Did they play just that or the whole song?

Yeah, that set-list seems incomplete, I hope they played Abigail too! Can't wait to hear all the set on Youtube (Damn, my dreams are very poor! :icon_lol: But living in Italy I can do nothing else for now! Let's hope for a wide European tour supporting the upcoming album)! :icon_biggrin:

No Abigail. And they didn't play Tea or Digging Graves in it's entirety. It was a medley with those two songs plus part of A Visit from the Dead. Same as the last tour. Fucking kick ass though! One of my favorite parts of the set!

Then I was just completely drawn in. They could have played anything in my mind. They were just that good. The band was so tight. King's voice is in that good of shape. I had absolutely no idea he could still sing that well. I just didn't believe every interview I heard with him saying his voice is in the best shape of his career. So glad I went to that show. If they were closing and had more time.

Ok, my mistake then. I was just too absorbed by the band playing to realize that they did the medley like on the last tour. I missed not hearing some of the songs that they cut, like Never Ending Hill, which absolutely rips live! I was glad I got to hear Black Horseman because the night I saw King he had to leave that one out due to him having food poisoning. I am in the firm belief that whatever the band could have played last Friday, it would have been epic. They were just THAT good.

Just saw King Diamond last night in San Bernardino! Every instrument was superb! King's vocal are still going strong. And what a stage show! It worked really well on a larger stage, the haunted house background looked so real; they should have kept it up longer than a couple of songs. Miss the days of King doing pyro. I don't know why Slayer gets to and not KD? Permit cost? Glad that Jodi was able to come along. Always love seeing her antics onstage. Does Livia usually not sing on the Eye? I noticed she was missing from the stage during that song. Sadly I was not close enough to the stage to see Matt's glass shattering trick.

It was an exceptional performance. My only complaint is the setlist. And no "You can't please everyone and include every song" argument holds water. There was literally nothing from this century! Why not stand behind and represent the albums you are doing now and putting out for the fans to buy? I'm sure there were some new converts out there at Mayhem Fest, and every time I meet younger fans, they are always wondering about new albums coming out. This setlist seems to say. "yeah we stopped making albums in 1997". Abigail is my favorite album of ALL time, but for a shortened set, three songs were unnecessary. "7th Day Of July 1777" was an awesome treat, but they could have dropped or shortened Black Horsemen. Consider axeing also "Evil" or "Come To The Sabbath...it is a KD show after all, and put in maybe a medley of songs from later day albums like "The Storm" and "Darkness" not to mention the fan favorite, but never heard live "LOA House". It's not about making everyone happy, it's just having a set list that is more balanced and representative of the whole King Diamond era, rather than just being greatest hits period piece.

All in all, I had a great time. There were a lot of people there in KD shirts and even MF shirts. I wouldn't say that people left after KD, actually more people came in right after KD's set. Oh well, it's their loss. Slayer was great as well. I will never get all the hate towards them. Slayer and KD are among the few metal bands that have remained dedicated to their principle sound throughout the years.

I agree with Count Jonah regarding the set-list! For a 10 songs show I'd put less old classics and more modern stuff! I think Welcome Home, and maybe The Family Ghost or Sleepless Nights are the only must! Then I'd go for songs like LOA House (wich would unleash the hell live), and something extremely theatric like The Storm, The Wheelchair, The Ritual, The Floating Head, etc., even to let know to the younger generation who is King Diamond now! And yes, I too love Evil and Come To The Sabbath, but I won't sacrifice a couple of King Diamond songs for those! Especially in a shorter set like this!
My personal thoughts, of course!

I've seen Ozzy a couple times and couldn't imagine complaining that Paranoid was in the set. Also it was mine and my friends first time seeing KD and we were shocked and delighted to hear any Mercy songs. It was a complete bonus.

I feel it as a different thing. Paranoid is a Black Sabbath song, but it is nevertheless an Ozzy Osbourne must.
Don't get me wrong, I was seriously going crazy when I've seen them playing Come To The Sabbath and Evil back in 2006! That was totally unexpected! But if you ask me, I will always prefer more King Diamond songs in a King Diamond show! It's a matter of tastes! :)

I saw King last night, July 4th, in Albuquerque, NM... amazing.

Totally makes up for last fall when I drove all the way to Tuscon (at night, in the rain) and the concert at the Rialto was cancelled. That was for me quite devastating. Livia gave her word when they said they would be back and to my surprise they came to my city. No driving!! 10 years since you played at the sunshine theatre, I'll tell this was a VERY special performance last night.

As soon as I heard King was coming to town I called my sister whom went with me to see him in Tuscon and asked her if she wanted to go. She does not really listen to metal she is just open minded about it. Also got my brother in law to go as well. He does not really listen to metal either although he grew up in the eighties and saw bands like Dio and Maiden. They are now huge King Diamond fans! My bro in law actually bought a King Diamond shirt which totally suprises me cause it just seems so out of place for this guy to ever wear a metal shirt. They were blown away!! I mean the look of absolute shock and amazement on their faces was priceless. I don't think they knew quite what to expect. This is a quote from both of them "Best show ever!!"... Being able to share something I love so much with people that I love, and to have them love it too is one of best feelings ive ever had. We are definitely going to see you again, come hell or high water.

And I noticed that a lot of people were freaked out and in awe of Kings performance. Most of the people were there for Slayer, but King just blatantly blew everybody else that played off the stage. I mean they went on after Hellyeah, which isn't really that hard to top. Its not even debatable who put on the best show. I like Slayer (they are not their usual selves btw) but they couldn't follow King. I think a lot of people in Albuquerque are going to be doing some research on who King Diamond is after this one. I had heard a lot of rumblings about King Diamond who? because well Albuquerque metal fans seem to like their training bra metal and are a tad ignorant about who is really legendary. I can totally picture some people sitting down at breakfast this morning discussing "Man did you see that King Diamond band?? WTF??""

And being a lifelong KD/MF fan it was just the best for me.. great set btw.  You are so talented and your voice sounds amazing, better than ever. Thank you King Diamond for being a class act and bringing so much happiness and joy to me and my family. It was the night of a lifetime. Please be safe and best wishes to you and your family. I hope you get around to reading this at some point! Cheers!!

After experiencing the show, I would agree that it would have been nice to have some stuff from The Puppet Master, even if they had to hack Mercyful Fate material. It was still a killer show though. Had a couple dudes sitting next to me who were their for Slayer but kept commenting about how good King sounded and how kick ass the music was. They kept asking who that weird old lady was who kept coming on stage. It was comical to listen to. I think they are new King Diamond fans, though.  :king: Wish it wasn't over

Not a fan of festivals and really not a fan of the lineup on this one at all. Hopefully once this mini tour is over they will all go back in the studio TOGETHER and create one hell of a album that will melt faces and then do a proper tour.

Mini tour? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the largest audiences King has preformed in front of in the USA? I know KD/MF have headlined the Metalfest here before, but those venues were probably not even half as large as the ones on this tour.

Thank you for making a very good supporting statement Blackest. I don't think it's a case of less versus more old/new, but just having the set-list accurately balanced out. In this case it went from imbalanced to completely leaving out the new albums. The Graveyard is almost 20 years old! Slayer had a ton of newer songs in their setlist, a situation I think would still be the same if they didn't have the extra 15-20 minutes. And I think we all can agree here that King Diamond has far better latter-day albums than Slayer.... :read:  :king:
I know they are amazing classics, but they have all been played on the KD tours since the beginning. How many tours has the song "Magic" been played on? Drop "Tea", "Evil", "A Visit From The Dead" and turn "The Eye" and "Black Horsemen" into a medley and give Voodoo, HoG, Puppetmaster, Abgail 2 and yes, even GMYSP a chance to be heard live and appreciated by the fans old and new.

Generally a mini-tour is considered a handful of dates in small venues, this is neither of those qualifications. This tour is a pretty big deal for KD. It's too bad they don't have a NEW release out to capitalize on it.

Hey guys!!! ME - AMIDIATUS from Ukraine has already done blue-ray of King Diamond live show! I was at Stadium Live arena in Moscow and with the help of the other fans I managed to MAKE 20 cameras multicam of the show. All angles, close ups and so on!!! 12 Gb, 1280/720 and 1hour 17min. By the way King and Livia have the copy of the show on DVD. I sent them by post more than a year ago. But because of their business no answer yet. So I can't post it for now. :kopfpatsch:

Ass kissing? I said nothing of the sort. And there are no witches and goats nearby...or are they?  :D:

And irony is one of the few coping mechanisms I have for there being no DVD releases of Mercyful Fate live in 1982 or pro-shot footage of the Them tour or behind the scenes footage of King and Anton LaVey singing "Sympathy For The Devil".  :king:

Not assuming the role of a moderator here, but I think you guys should stop arguing about "it". It doesn't help anyone to keep retreading the same bullshit.

King Diamond doesn't always have the full input as to what gets released, so we should be grateful for what we already have so far. There are already a few official DVDs that have been bundled with certain album reissues, so there's at least something that ISN'T all just bootlegs in this case. If you want to complain, take it to the labels for not doing their part in the past. For example, Metal Blade Records had the potential to make Mercyful Fate's 1993 live EP into a whole set, but they picked only certain tracks. To make matters worse, a few songs off In the Shadows were given more importance than the live recordings contained. It's not the band's fault -- they don't owe any of us anything. Period.

Also, no matter how good the playback quality may be, a live recording will NEVER compare to actually seeing the band in person. I think all that energy spent on complaining about what "needs" to be released should be channeled through the music itself. If you want to watch an old Mercyful Fate show from 1983, go look it up on YouTube. End of debate.

Anyway, does anyone have a picture of the band's set from last night? Due to a severe eye infection, King Diamond wasn't allowed to wear anything on his face. Curious to look.

It's not bull shit. How can those classic shows be bullshit? I was not old enough nor tuned into KD/MF nor anywhere near Denmark in the early 1980's to have attended those shows. Unless you have a time machine, this is the next best thing.

Of course I am familiar with the 1983 Holland show, I've been watching it since 1999, long before Youtube. I'm talking about the 1982 show that they have footage from, and maybe other pro shot footage, or the unholy grail: footage of the 1984 USA tour maybe? As well as pro shot footage from the early KD shows which the band claims no one has seen before.

We have tried contacting Metal Blade about the DVD releases before. There was even a whole topic encouraging people to write in years ago. Given that Metal Blade can make some money on this, and that they even advertised the release of the DVDs once before, I firmly believe the ball is in King's court on this one. It's not so much as arguing as it is appealing to the King to release the DVDs that were talked about before and many of the hardcore fans have been dying to see. And I'm not just talking about "he who shall not be named" here. You others may dismiss this all you want, but if this was released tomorrow, you would be first in line to buy it.  :icon_twisted: :king:

haha I just might have to try that. They are basketball style shorts that are a few sizes too big, so they are super comfy to wear around the house as PJ's. I dig them. I also did get the correct size Mayhem Fest shirt with all the tour dates, so that makes me feel better. I just loved the King shirt I got. Black and white with King singing into the mic on the front, tour dates on the back.

Finally after all these years I had the opportunity to see KD. About damn time everything didn't end up a catastrophic failure for once and I was able to make it happen (some issues this time too but got it covered). Any time I've ever had a chance, even ticket in hand, something for some reason had always made it impossible for me to attend a KD or MF show (never has ever been the case with any other artists, naturally). I'm so glad I went. I went late but was there for the whole KD set. I've not been at that venue for years and forgot how awful the place is (it was not designed with acoustics in mind) but the band sounded fantastic despite the place being akin to a tin can.  King's vocals were nothing less than impressive,  and I'd challenge the majority of vocalists half his age and younger to do better.  The man's pipes are in better shape than I could've imagined.  I ended up checking out some of slayer before I ducked out (was there, may as well) and they're not awful but it's not the same level as king diamond. Although I was surprised there weren't more attendees. Maybe due to a Sunday people couldn't make it but part of it may have been location as the venue is a fair distance from the city of Chicago.  Better for me though cause I'm very close but I did overhear a lot of people complaining about the trip/ability to find transportation as public transit on the weekend is non existent in the southwest burbs.

A lot of good pints here , i would agree take out Evil & Sabbath & add in more KD stuff , it has to be a hard position for King & the band to make a setlist  & i am sure they are trying to put out a strong set to win over new fans while they are in front of them .
give me your soul & puppetmaster are pretty great albums  & a shame they can't fit a bunch of that stuff in , but i'm just happy they are playing these bigger venues  , it's a moment all us fans have been hoping for ..................... for a LONG time  \m/

haha I just might have to try that.

Cool you did get another shirt & the shorts  \m/   are the shorts soft cotton , or more of a nylon type material ?

Thanks to everyone for the show reviews  :king:

They are more of a smooth, silky style, not cotton. They are sleek. My favorite thing to wear after work now :)

As long as Mercyful Fate is not touring, I think King Diamond shows should still have a couple Mercyful Fate songs.  It has been sixteen years since they have toured, and those songs should be played live.

Going to the show next weekend in Mansfield, MA and curious if anyone has done the "Ultimate Mayhem Backstage Experience" and can share their thoughts on it. I've seen a few folks ask earlier in the tour but with no replies. Hoping to hear if you can take pictures with King as part of the meet and greet and if any one has any pictures or details of the guitar that you get.

Thanks and All Hail the King!

Going to the show in mass as well. I've seen people post pictures on kings Facebook account of them with him from the ultimate package, as much as I would of liked to meet him couldn't get all 5 of us to pay 700 each just for that.

Yes, you can take pictures with the whole band, get autographs, and chat for a bit. :)

As for the rest of the package, I'm not sure what it's like.

Hi... I am not going to the shows in the northeast this tour. Dont get me wrong love the music ..hate outdoor festivals..and as a fan of many years have seen this many times before! Waiting for a new album.

Btw..I have also read the several posts here concerning DVDs..lol..its passe .. I mean damn I watch movies on my device now.. Time to get updated with the present :) Personally I feel that opportunity was missed long ago no need to be crazy over bootlegs and such just utube alone has a ton of live footage from this tour to 1983 mercyful fate . Also as I'm old enough to remember certain people sold bootlegs on the board and nothing was ever said back then.

Best wishes for a safe and happy tour..(truely no ass kissing here ;)  )...

Saw King in Tinley. Brilliant show! From back where we were you couldn't really tell he didn't have his makeup on. King's voice does really sound better than ever. The harmonies blended real well whether it was wih Livia or possibly backing tracks mixed in. It's definitely 100% live singing unlike a lot of the pop concerts my wife has brought me along to lately. Some parts of those songs are very tricky and technical to sing, requiring a ton of precision and the few times King did get tripped up a little were the same moments in those songs that trip me up. They may be inhumanly possible to sing with perfection. Nowadays being a King fan is very acceptable. It's not like 15-20 years ago where even among Metal fans I knew here or online it was kinda taboo to be into King or Mercy. All those people who questioned it back then have King on their ipod now.

One of these days I hope King adds some stuff like LOA House, Egypt, and Into the Unknown into the set. To me Egypt is just as important as Evil or Come To The Sabbath. This was the song that helped break King to people who were too young to be into the bands in the 80s. Probably the most commercial song Mercyful Fate or King ever did along with Is That You Melissa. Egypt was on the 103.5 station here a lot in Summer of 93. Black Devil is another song I'd like to see back in the set. Thought it worked brilliantly on the House of God tour I saw at House of Blues.

Just so you know, all lead vocals are done by King and all harmonies and backings are done by me. There are no vocals playing from recordings/playback.

The only thing that plays from recordings are the keyboards for Eye of the Witch and 7th Day of July 1777 (and of course the intro to the Candle and the outro Insanity).

On some live video of Tea I had seen from a couple years back it sounded like added harmonies from backing tracks and I didn't like that much. Could have been some kinda vocal effect too, I have several pieces of hardware and plugins that create pretty realistic doubles and triples. I imagine King has even better stuff, plus a soundman who can route things all kinds of ways. Livia, I'm so glad you are able to blend your own harmonies so naturally because it really adds a lot to the show. When I've seen Pop bands live in recent years it sounds like they brought every vocal overdub from their studio sessions and added it live. My wife showed me a video of Madonna performing Ghost Town on some show and it sounded too much like the studio version, like they hooked up Pro Tools and booted up the album session as if they were in the studio.

Did anyone else think King was the draw here? The crowd was so much more into King than Slayer. There's a lot of articles saying that the Mayhem tour isn't doing so well. Sister Sin was the only other band I cared to see besides King and Slayer. But even they aren't on par with what came before. Sinergy really perfected that type of sound with Suicide By My Side and if only the tour with King had gone through in 2002, maybe Sinergy would've stayed functional. Jungle Rot has a lot of good songs but I didn't hear much of any of them in their set. Too many of the other bands are just a bunch of generic extreme Metal without any real memorable creativity or hooks. It's really the complete opposite of King and Slayer in just about every single way.

I had to laugh when you mentioned 103.5 in the early 90s, those were the good old days!

I was at tinley show as well and thought king was the main draw.  I wasn't able to see the other bands earlier but it sure looked to me that people were (like myself) coming in specifically for the kd portion.  Naturally slayer was a draw but looked like several people took off after KD and not too long after slayer started. I'm guessing other spots on the tour have been this way as well but I could be wrong.  Perhaps some other coveners can provide a little insight.....

I really don't know if King Diamond was the main draw, but it was either King Diamond or Slayer.  I was at the Chicago show.  I got there about 20 minutes before King Diamond started, and watched both King Diamond and Slayer and it seemed to be more or less equal.  It doesn't really matter.  Both King Diamond and Slayer are great bands.

Slayer was definitely the draw in Seattle, but there was a nice chunk of King fans there. I think there were a lot more King Diamond fans after the show. Lots of new King Diamond merchandise on display as everyone was trying to leave after the show.

I am sorry, but Kerry King's insinuation that King Diamond is not a headliner absoloutley infuriated me. I've never cared for Slayer's sound the same as every other song crap, and having the nerve to state this while on tour, well that's just an asshole and an idiot. King Diamond blows Slayer off the stage. The nerve to go out on stage and play with King's band and then take cheap shot's like that is beyond unbelievable. Kerry King, you sir are really something special. I can only imagine what the King Diamond camp is feeling about this. I am outraged.

Not surprised. Kerry has no class and no filter. Combine that with a sociopathic view of his own awesomeness and you get the stupid shit he says on a daily basis. He said even worse things about the other bands he is currently touring with, many of them old Slayer fans. Have met the man through work back in the day, and was less than impressed every time. Plus, the little fucker can't play the guitar properly.

He also called out his own band , what he stated was King was not a headliner as in these types of 20,00o seaters , he also implied neither is Slayer & the festival NEEDED one more big name on the main stage  & a big one to headline the 2nd stage .
The mayhem fests Slayer has played before they did not headline they usually went on with 1 or two bands after them .
It's truth , King diamond as a band is doing amazing this past year but the draw right now is 3,000 - 5,000 , but as the word spreads , who knows King may indeed be able to Headline the bigger places in the future ?
Kerry is just telling it like it is  ...even slayer (at least near boston) only draws 3 - 5,000 & it's probably a lot of the same metal fans .

I saw King Diamond for the very first time at the Mansfield, MA show. I regret not seeing him earlier. It was amazing! King Diamond is phenomenal! I was also in for a surprise when Kerry King joined him on stage. I teach in China and I go home usually about once a year and when I learned that King Diamond was on the bill for the Mayhem festival, I had to be there. The funny thing is that I saw Whitesnake two nights before and I got a kidney stone on the way back from the show and had to go to the hospital. I was in a world of pain that night! My parents were urging me to sell my tickets and take it easy but I don't usually take no for an answer. I spoke with the doctors and they gave me the green light so drove to Mansfield the day after being in the hospital and I was in the pit. King Diamond puts on an awesome show!  Sadly my students are not very familiar with rock and roll but I will tell them that if the music they like makes them happy, them I'm happy but please don't call your music rock and roll! I'm looking forward to seeing King Diamond again.
