... with special guests Mercyful Fate!
« on: August 02, 2007, 11:57:54 pm »
I saw a Black Sabbath gig a couple of years ago, and Judas Priest the year before that. I was somewhat surprised and a little disappointed in the choice of opening bands (Soulfly and In Flames respectively) for the concerts, both being much heavier and faster than the main acts. Why didn't they choose more suitable bands? Mercyful Fate came to mind: they are also a classic, reunited band more in synch musicwise with both BS and JP, at least more than Soulfly and In Flames (nothing negative about either of them though!).
The second question that comes to mind is: would it suit MF to open for another band? Would they do, being legends in their own right? My view is IF they would be OK with it as a band, Sabbath and Priest are about the only bands I could see them opening for.

Yes it was misleading, only to get peoples interest though! Sorry about that...
I´m a bit hesitant to the thought of MF as an opener myself! But let´s change the question a little: if MF would do one of these package tours - that are so common these days - with a couple of other bands (headlining off course  :P), which other bands do you think would be suitable?

Mercyful Fate doesn't play live... RIGHT NOW.

Have faith, brothers and sisters. I predict a re-union tour in the next 5-7 years. They were broke up for a long time, then they put out some of the best metal ever! KD/MF are timeless.

It wouldn't shock me if someday King had his own theater, doing 3-4 shows a week at the same place.

Ever heard of Branson, Missouri? It's a little tourist town with a bunch of casinos and music theaters, mostly playing old country music acts. I predict that someday some forward thinking town will have the same thing, but with heavy metal stars, and King will have his own 5000 seat place and Mercyful Fate/King Diamond will be the house band.

They have played with Metallica several times.   First being on the Don't Break the Oath show in San Fran when Metallica jammed with the guys on stage.

Their first reunion gig in 1993 was in Copenhagen opening for Metallica.  Then, of course, they did a bunch of dates with Metallica on the 9 tour

the band never split up since the last 9 tour. They even have a contract and have to do one record.
So you can't speak of a reunion. :)
