Well, that`s not the issue; if a fan doesn`t want to buy the shit because the fucking art work isn`t great, then I`d be very surprised.

That's true. If I never bought a CD or DVD because I hated the artwork, I wouldn't have more than half of my collection.

the cover can be a picture of a piece of shit and I will buy it anyway... I have been waiting for 15 years for these dvds... the day I finally get them will be one of the most important days of my life!

You're right. But the fanbase is much smaller than the actual stat of metal fans. And someone who has never heard of King Diamond might be swayed to purchase something else if a cheap looking cover is donned on the DVD case. Fans of the BBC program, Doctor Who, complained endlessly when the serials were first being released on DVD due to uncreative and bland covers. And the R1 releases were even worse. Sales have increased slightly since the covers have improved. Here's an example:

The latter is the reissue. And these are the inferior R1 covers.

Yes, we die-hard King Diamond/Mercyful Fate fans will purchase the DVDs. But will anyone else if the outward appearance is less than...appealing?

I see your point, I was just talking about us, the fans. That said; I`m not sure if an artist like KD can win to many new fans because of great art work alone; this isn`t music for everyone, and he has been around for a while, and still doèsn`t get the recognition he deserves, or has an increasing fanbase..I think. I hope the whole Metallica Guita Hero has created som buzz around both KD and MF, though.

New music fans are born everyday. I feel like I'm an oldie(40) on this forum. There are a ton more younger KD/MF fans out there than every before. And old is brand new again. Fans are always looking at bands that innovated their favorite genres. Wouldn't YOU want to display a King Diamond DVD with a more-than-decent looking cover?

Of course, just like everyone else, including those who will design it. But that`s another thing; taste is individual, there`s no "norm".
