King Diamond convention?
« on: February 12, 2007, 04:35:14 pm »
:king:let me start off by saying hey this is my 1st post here and real excited about getting to meet some fellow diamondbangers! :king:but onto my topic. My girlfriend is REALLY into queen and she goes twice a year to Queen conventions.I recently went with her this year to england to attend one of these conventions and all i could think about while looking at these people was that king diamond/mercyful fate fans are as hardcore(more i think)about our favorite bands then these people are about Queen.SO recently Ive been thinking why don't we have our own convention? There could be tribute bands(maybe one day the real thing)we would get to meet one another and maybe members or King diamond/mercyful fate, trade or sell rare king stuff from our collections, have costume contests, and just get to hangout with fellow diamondbangers.Lemme know what you guys think!

I think its a GREAT ideal - Iam down!

I vote NYC!! or atleast in the US, not because Iam from US but rather I feel most of his fans are here.

Sounds like an interesting idea, though I'm not sure if I'd attend it myself unless it happened to be very close to where I live which would be unlikely! I would think most King Diamond fans would be in Europe though, as Metal seems more popular in Europe.. Although having said that, a high number of people on this forum do seem to be from the US.

First of all; great idea! I would absolutely go.

Second of all; I don`t believe most KD/MF-fans are found in the US; Germany, Scandinavia, Italy an GB all have huge fanbases. Poland too, I think. In my opinion, the "coolest" place to hold such a thing would be Copenhagen; it`s where it all started with MF, it`s a fantastic town, and easy to get around in...not a fucking metropol where you need guides and stuff  :fingers:
Like, whatever.

Sounds like fun.
I would like to go, but it would be a problem to travel very far distances.

If this was going to happen, there should definitely be one in North America and another one in Europe.

and the band actually coming would be...AWESOME!!!! \m/

If there was a KD and/or MF convention, I dont think the band should perform any songs because that is the purpose of the tour. Right?
The band members should not even have to go unless they want to.
Mainly the convention IMO should consist of cover bands, and a place for coven members and fans to meet and stuff. I think it should sort of be a tribute to the band with no obligations on their part.

Isn't this place a neverending King Diamond convention?  :D
Seriously, I would be cool, but I doubt it would happen. Yes, there is a fan base, but probably not large or wealthy enough to travel and make this a success. I can see it work for bigger bands that have filled arenas and stadiums for the last 30 years. 'Cos these things attract the die-hard collectors, not the casual fans. But i'd love to be proven wrong in this case.

There would have to be one in the U.S. (most likely since King is living in Texas now and technically is a U.S. citizen) and in his hometown.  But it would be hard for many of us to travel.   :(

Good idea. It wouldn't be impossible for me to travel to Copenhagen.
If there would be two meetings I'm quite sure that most of the European fans would be coming to Copenhagen and American fans in the U.S meeting. Then Europeans and Americans won't meet to each other. ::)

Organize a King Diamond fan club in your town. Put up flyers at your local record stores and night spots that are into that sort of thing. Include your email address and a phone number. Organize a meeting on a regular night (say,  8pm on the 3rd tuesday of each month) at a restaurant or bar or an all-ages club or a record store or a school (or a church, if you can get permission!) that doesn't mind getting a little loud. Thank the people that helped provide the space when you are done, and tip their staff and don't be a troll. Make sure someone brings chips and some pop if the place doesn't serve that stuff! Have a dvd player or a cd player to play your favorite obscure tracks or bootlegs. Encourage attendees to bring their favorite KD/MF artifacts. Eventually you have your own King Diamond Coven.

If I win the lottery, I'll organize it, fly all you guys in, and have the original Mercyful Fate play a 3-hour show at the end of the day.

They would probably have to do it regionally. Smaller conventions all over the place
