I read somewhere that King was given the name while he was in Brainstorm.

Kim (King) himself does not know.  When in Brainstorm he and the other guys all decided to use different names for themselves.  One guy was Jesse James and one was West or something if I remember right and Kim was King Diamond.  But he has said many times he does not remember why or what it is suppose to mean.

I remember him being asked about it in an interview, and if my memory serves me right I don't think there's much of a story behind it, just that the name King Diamond sounded cool. Which it does of course. :king:

The name itself does have a mid to late 70s feel to it.
Resistance is inadvisable...

Seems pretty random, but it worked!  :king:

I think so too, but all the more reason it's "timeless". I always kinda wondered about this name thing because people always ask  me, "What kind of name is King Diamond?" I usually just say it stands for fantastic ass-kicking metal and they get dumb stares on their faces. If I have to begin by explaining what "metal" is I probably am wasting my time trying to even touch upon what King Diamond is. At least if they understand metal I can loan them a cd and let that do the talking.  :D

Thanks for asking Aeon666!

I looked into the use of diamonds in witchcraft and the occult, turns out they are used to control or manipulate. King Manipulator could be another name for the great deceiver or the beast! Very cool!

there was a band back in the early 80's in North Carolina called 'Diamonds'. their slogan was 'the hardest rock known to man'. I always presumed a similarity, but who knows?

actually it was the voices of the spirit powers he did and without any equipment too.  and it sounded so real and incredible!  But then he is always surrounded by these powers in real life.
