King Diamond Announces Jess and the Ancient Ones as Support
« on: September 09, 2014, 07:37:58 pm »
Hi Everyone!

King Diamond would like to welcome Jess and the Ancient Ones as the opening act for the North American tour this fall. The occult rock group from Kuopio, Finland, was personally selected by King Diamond himself to be the openers on the tour.

Jess and the Ancient Ones is an occult rock band from Kuopio, Finland. This seven-headed entity was given birth by Thomas Corpse and Thomas Fiend, its purpose being the exploration of magical realms beyond the mundane. The band’s lyrical concept is based upon the personal occult experiences of the writers, which combined with music, creates a strong mystical atmosphere. With the vocal talent Jess as their frontwoman and three guitars in the lineup, JATAO draw inspiration from heavy metal and rock groups of the classic era, such as Mercyful Fate, Roky Erickson, Iron Maiden and Abba. Watch their latest video for “Astral Sabbat” on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hgWxb1bXkE. For more information, visit their official website, www.jessandtheancientones.com, as well as follow them on twitter and facebook: www.twitter.com/JatAO_Official, www.facebook.com/jessandtheancientones.

In other news, the Atlanta, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles shows on the tour are SOLD OUT! Additionally, only a handful of tickets remain for the Seattle, WA date. Get your tickets now before they are gone!

So they combine their real occult experiences into the lyrics just like King so no wonder he got into  them. I seriously need to check them out!

Wow, an excellent choice from King!!! As a Finn I'm very happy for my fellow-countrymen. They do deserve this great opportunity.

Jess and the Ancient Ones is truly amazing live band. Their live sound is always very dynamic and heavy, and the vocalist lady is a great performer. I love their debut album. Sulfur Giants is by far my favorite song from that awesome album. It's a long epic song. It starts very slowly but turns out to be a one heavy melodic masterpiece.

Check this out, my American friends: Sulfur Giants.

Both, the full lenght album and the 3 song EP are great. For example the long song More than Living from the EP is phenomenal.

P.S. Chagosomar asked where I have been. Well, I've been lurking in the shadows. :D:

Disappointing but then of course...the tour is not coming near me in New Orleans...so I've since gotten over it.

Don't hate them but I don't like them either. Just not my cup of tea.

You can cut and paste any one female-fronted '70s occult rock revival band; they are all the same. Tired of this stupid trend.

Didn't know it was a trend. Your opinion is yours, and I'll respect it. However, due to this being an official thread for the supporting band, please refrain from such a negatively charged post. If you want to discuss the merits of female-fronted '70s occult rock revival bands, feel free to start a discussion (or not) in the Music discussion board.

Let's keep this discussion civil, please, and show the supporting band, whether you like them or not, some respect, as well as showing respect to the band, management, etc. who chose to have them on this tour.

I'm not surprised that he got one of these occult rock bands. I'm not complaining though as I think it's an interesting wave, regardless of the "metal" factor. It's good that there are finally bands that play REAL hard rock music that don't look like Weezer or Avenged Sevenfold. As for Jess and the Ancient Ones, I can't say that I'm familiar with most of their stuff but what I've heard, I liked. I look forward to seeing them as well.

Well I for one just learned about a new band, and I must admit I absolutely love this! Goddammit I think they are great! At least from that song the KD camp posted! Seriously just what I like. Badass!

I just wish the tour would be so that I could see it, both those bands on one night would be an amazing bill! Jess and the Ancient Ones sound just like something out of a Tarantino movie, and I for one just simply love that! Very very good choice! The fact that you are helping such a ''small'' band with a fullblown US tour really warms my heart as well!

Good choice! The KD camp just got even more awesome!

Excellent choice for a supporting band! Trendy? What!? I thought the in trends right now are teen pop, rap, hipster approved music and One Direction? I don't see were Jess and The Ancient Ones fit in. Even if it's got a lot of pre-metal/non-metal influences going on, it's still metal. Just not the "blow out the speakers every second" variety, which is an interesting change for a KD opening band. Reminds me somewhat of Coven and instantly recalled King talking about them in the Lords of Chaos book. Now looking even more forward to this tour!  :king:

Yeah I think they're going to really set the spooky tone for King properly. After listening to them, King is going to be like euphoria for my ears  \m/ Nice concert from start to finish.

I understand what Spectre is saying.

There are quite a few occult rock bands who are doing the "Coven" thing. 70's occult-prog revival, many times with a singer who sounds like Grace Slick/Jinx Dawson singing about occult stuff. I can dig some of it. The point he's making that it shows up a lot lately is quite valid. I'm just not as annoyed as he.

The way I see it, if someone hears a certain type of music and loves it enough to want to create something like it, who would I be to judge? Also, I'm not in a position to discern what was made out of love and what was made out of mimicry.

If you like Jess and The Ancient Ones, you'd probably also like
Purson:
http://youtu.be/47CP2-f5mdg
 http://youtu.be/EEVOABq8zzU (<- this song rules)

Blood Ceremony:
http://youtu.be/nRJwTS_2M5M

Horisont:
http://youtu.be/r3hOX56m8GE

If you enjoy that type of music there is A LOT out there and a lot of it is quite good.

I'm excited for Jess and the ancient ones. Should be interesting and a nice change of pace.
